The Empower Youth Leadership Program is sponsored by your local electric cooperative.
Why? Because it’s what cooperatives do. Education, cooperation, and community betterment are emphasized in the Cooperative Principles and are engrained in the heart of the co-op mission.
The Empower Youth Leadership Program originated in 2014 at Sioux Valley Energy, which is headquartered in Colman, South Dakota. More than 30 students took part in the program that first year, and was followed up by three more successful years thanks to the diligence and unwavering commitment of Sioux Valley Energy’s staff.
Expanding on the success Sioux Valley Energy achieved with the program, Basin Electric, Northern Electric, and Central Electric teamed up to offer the same opportunity to students in their membership territories.
Today, Sioux Valley Energy, Central Electric, and Northern Electric are helping area students enrich their futures and better their communities, all while serving as a walking and talking example of the Cooperative Principles. Contact your local cooperative to learn more about how you can get involved in the youth programs offered.
