Who can participate in Empower Youth?
Empower Youth is open to students finishing their freshman year through senior year.
Cost of program to the student/sponsor?
Empower Youth is FREE for students. However, students are responsible for transportation to the spring and fall one-day sessions. For students traveling greater distances to attend, meals and lodging may be a possible cost. If there is a cost to you, please contact your local electric cooperative to ask if they can assist with costs. Students may also want to bring spending money for souvenirs and snacks at the Co-op C-Store.
What if the student cannot attend a session?
We understand things come up, and ask the student to contact the Empower Youth Coordinator if they are unable to attend a session.
Will my child be safe?
The safety and well-being of the students who take part in Empower Youth, including the Youth Excursion, is our number one priority. There will be chaperones both at the one-day sessions and Youth Excursion. Curfew during the Youth Excursion is 10:30 p.m. Chaperones on the Youth Excursion will ensure all students are in their assigned rooms and there will be professional security guards on duty during the overnight hours.
Special dietary needs or food allergies?
Upon submitting the application to apply for Empower Youth, your son/daughter will receive an email with follow up forms that need to be filled out to complete the application process. There will be a place to note any special diet needs, food allergies, etc. Please make sure this information is noted on the forms so we can make proper arrangements. We will contact you if we have any follow-up questions concerning your child.
Are medical professionals onsite?
No. If medical assistance is required, we will contact you and access the local medical facilities if needed.
